Focusing on emotion
In the Creative Cubs room, we have been exploring our emotions.
Emotional exploration involves exploring emotions, using language to express feelings and learning to treat others with kindness and empathy. Children are learning so much about themselves and their place in the world. They often become overwhelmed with big emotions and often have extreme reactions to these emotions and don’t know how to deal with them, leading to extreme frustration.
We photographed the children’s emotions in relation to happy, sad, angry and sad. Many of them were able to produce these emotions using their body language and facial expressions in a separate experience but during the heat of the moment have trouble understanding and regulating these emotions.
Emotions are a social/emotional skill and it’s important to master these big emotions in early childhood as it is a lifelong skill.
