Introducing St Nicholas Early Education Lochinvar’s brand-new Atelier
St Nicholas Early Education Lochinvar recently launched their brand-new Atelier, which is a French word to describe the private workshop or studio of an artist.
In the context of a Reggio Emilia-influenced early education centre, an Atelier is a place of artistic research, invention, and empathy, expressed through creative play.
St Nicholas Early Education Lochinvar’s Atelier
“Our Atelier is an area that we’ve created,” Lochinvar educator, Chelsea says. “It’s full of materials and experiences that have endless opportunities for making and exploring. It’s kind of a space that’s designed for mess and it doesn’t need to be clean. The kids can freely explore and create and make a mess.”
The area includes a number of open-ended opportunities for children to play and be creative. Paints, canvases and clay are just some of the materials available for children who utilise the Atelier.
St Nicholas Early Education’s Reggio Emilia-influenced curriculum
St Nicholas Early Education employs a play-based and Reggio Emilia-influenced curriculum, a student-centred and constructivist approach that uses self-directed, experiential learning in relationship-driven environments.
The program is based on the principles of respect, responsibility, and community through exploration, discovery and a self-guided curriculum.
At its core, Reggio Emilia is based on the idea that children form their personalities during their earliest years of development and are endowed with "a hundred languages,” through which they can express their ideas.
