NSW Fire & Rescue visit St Nicholas Early Education Raymond Terrace
The children learnt about ‘good’ fires, like candles when they’re monitored, and ‘bad’ fires, like unplanned bush fires. They also learnt about the importance of checking house fire alarms, what to do in case of a fire, and the roles of those in the Fire & Rescue service.
When the presentation was over, the children got to go out and see the fire truck and try out the special fire hose.
Community involvement at St Nick’s
St Nicholas Early Education is committed to building positive relationships with the wider community. Each centre encourages links to the community by inviting members of the community to visit St Nicholas Early Education centres, as well as taking children on excursions out into the local community.
In doing so, children develop a sense of belonging to groups and communities and an understanding of the reciprocal rights and responsibilities necessary for active community participation. They also develop a broader understanding of the world and their place within it.
