Parent testimonial | Yola a mum at St Nicholas Early Education Raymond Terrace

As the mother of a baby born prematurely, Yola was apprehensive about enrolling her daughter in care and returning to work, but thankfully St Nicholas’ compassionate team of educators made her feel at ease by supporting her every step of the way.

Yola attributes her calmness to the daily communication she receives from her daughter’s educators.

“We’ve had a fantastic journey so far,” Yola says. “All her developmental milestones she is reaching, they are giving us updates every day.”

Communication and documentation at St Nicholas Early Education

St Nicholas Early Education utilises a meaningful and authentic style of documentation and communication that allows both children and families to participate in their children’s learning journey.

Means of documentation and communication include—but aren’t limited to—a closed Facebook group, regular phone calls and face-to-face communication, portfolios and floor books, all of which are designed to showcase each child’s individual learning journey.

Although Yola has older children, this was the first time that she had to leave a child in care.

“It was a really hard decision,” she says, “but everybody made me feel so welcome. I feel good to leave her here and know that she’s going to get quality care.”

She also appreciates the involvement she gets to have in her daughter’s early learning journey.

“The girls ask me in the mornings how her night was and I get a sheet I can complete to say what time she should have her bottles and meals,” she says.

“I find her educators very nurturing,” Yola adds. “It’s a very warm, loving environment that they have set up for the babies, which for me was really important so that she can still get the home feeling at a day care centre.”
