St Nicholas invites applications for an experienced Childhood Educator (Diploma) at our Singleton centre. This opportunity is a part-time maternity leave contract up until 24 December 2019.

As an Early Childhood Educator, you will be expected to be an active member of a team which provides high quality early childhood education and care to children, whilst partnering with parents.

The Diploma level positions will assume some leadership responsibilities, and will require you to be an active member of the team, with a passion for providing high quality care and education to children. You will have the ability to develop relationships with children and families, assist in the implementation of policy and process of St Nicholas, and work with other staff to continuously improve the operations of St Nicholas.  St Nicholas Early Education adopts a best practice ethos in care and education, to ensure it has a positive reputation in the community of Newcastle.

Essential criteria

  • A Diploma level qualification in Children's Services as identified by the Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority;

  • A Demonstrated understanding of:

  • National Quality Framework (NQF);

  • Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF);

  • Child Protection and Mandatory Reporting;

  • Workplace Health and Safety issues and practices

  • A minimum of 2 years' experience working as a Child Care Educator within an early childhood service;

  • Knowledge of the stages of physical, emotional, cognitive, social and cultural development of children;

  • The capability to engage children through activities and experiences appropriate for age groups / stages of development;

  • Knowledge of health, hygiene and the nutrition needs of children;

  • The ability to communicate effectively with children, families and staff;

  • Experience in / or interest in additional needs / challenging behaviours;

  • A commitment to your own ongoing professional development in early childhood;

  • The ability to undertake the physical requirements involved within an early childhood setting:

  • Child protection qualification;

  • Current First Aid Certificate, Anaphylaxis and Asthma Management training;
